  • BRING HIGH MAGNIFICATION IMAGE STABILIZED BINOCULARS.
If you bring old-fashioned regular binoculars on your next safari or birding tour, you may miss observing the important key field mark features of birds and wildlife.  Often birds and mammals are far away or high up on tall trees. Regular 7 power, 8 power or even 10 power binoculars will provide only an inferior view of the birds and animals you hope to see. Higher magnification is unsuitable in regular binoculars due to the resulting magnification of any shakiness in your hands.

Within the last few years, image stabilization has greatly improved binoculars allowing for much higher magnification such as 16 power or 18 power. You may use such high magnifications in image stabilized binoculars even if you have shaky hands or are observing birds and wildlife on a windy day or from a moving boat, ship, van or other vehicle. Image Stabilization in binoculars is important for your next safari or birding tour.

  • DOWNLOAD BIRD AND WILDLIFE APPS
Instead of carrying heavy field guides on your next safari or birding tour, install high quality apps to your smartphone.
You can usually find mammal,  reptile and butterfly apps for your destination online.
Get the free highly acclaimed Merlin and e-bird apps from Cornell. Be sure to also download their bird packs for the region you are visiting.
  • PACK LIGHTLY
Most hotels used on safaris and birding tours will offer laundry services. You need only bring a limited change of clothes.
If travelling to tropical countries, bring mainly light-weight clothing that can easily be washed in a sink at the end of the day.
If traveling to cold climates, then pack long underwear and many layers of clothes to stay warm.
  • MEDICINES
If travelling to third world countries, check with your international travel clinic for advice.
Be sure to bring all your medicines plus over the counter drugs for colds, cuts and diarrhea.
